The Uri Bulls show their horns

The Uri Bulls are amped up for the Red Bull Jungfrau-Stafette. They took third place in 2007, fourth in 2008 – and in 2010 they might be right up front.

Team captain Heinz Baumann, this is also his third time in the race, has put together a powerful and sound team, especially in terms of speed – ranging from the cycling pro Markus Zberg, who will take on the starting stage, to the final runner Simon Hodler, who finished as the third-fastest runner at the Red Bull Jungfrau-Stafette 2008. Between these two are other athletes who tend to stand out, like glacier runner Bruno Bricker, one of the fastest Swiss cross-country runners among the 35-and-over league. Alpine runner André Marty has already ranked as the fastest at two editions of the Red Bull Jungfrau-Stafette. And skiing the best downhill time in 2008 was Marco Arnold, who has joined forces with the Uri team, as well as the professional paraglider Kurt Ziegler.

"You don’t need the fastest man for every stage, but having a balanced team on a high level keeps you on an even keel,” explains team captain Heinz Baumann. “I think we have a real chance this time with this team and our goal is to use it to our advantage.”

The downhill biker and paraglider met recently for training at Haldigrat. A strong wind for the paraglider and a snow-covered bike route were a perfect simulation of the conditions on Eggishorn, where the weather can be rather rough at times, even in summer. Exactly how the Uri Bulls are battling the wind and winter can be seen in this video.
